Star Gazing ~

On September 27, 2012 Mr.Chung invited us using  telescopes to gaze star!

I was shocked when I see the real star instead of  the images from internet! One of the star I saw was 6000 light years far away from earth!

Here is the picture I took from that night ! Amazing picture!

It was a wonderful night and experience~  Thanks for Mr.Chung~

Hot Air Balloon(2)

we used tissue paper and wires to make the air balloon

Here are our lovely group members~

Basiclly, the structure of our hot air ballon is based on the chinese sky lantern, it's a cylinder shape that is more stable.

We use tissue paper  because it's light and it would be easy to fly, but we forget the weight of wires..........TAT

unfortunate our balloon failed .........but it still kept in a good shape! I believe it was the best looking of all designs~

I dont know why they made a hole there......it lose hot air...that's one reason for it's uncessceful.

We put the candles at the bottom of the balloon, the hot air would go up and fly the balloon.

See!

Improvement: the biggest problem is the weight of the balloon, it was too heavy. We should make it lighter, and the candles were not enough~

Hot Air Balloon(1)

This is our fire balloon!!!、

It failed........but i love it!

My analysis of this failure:
the plastic bag was too heavy and the candles could not produce enough heat to heat up air inside the bag, and the outside temperature is cold.

Improvement:

make the bag not too heavy, change the material to make it lighter.

may change the structure

Egg lander--2

Congratulation!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our egg lander and egg was safe and complete!!!

so successful!

Thank you for all members' hard work and great idea!

here is the lander after falling!

Design:

Our disign base on the  badminton birdies. Badminton birdies are conical feathery balls .Arranging the feathers of birds in a conical fashion, with one end of the feathers held firmly in a cork, while a thin leather coat surrounds the cork itself, produces badminton birdies. so we according this put three long straws to make the cone birdies shape. This shape can decrease the force and speed when it falls down. Then we taped the top to get the same goal.

SES egg lander

Our SES class made the egg lander in class last week. It was so much fun!!! The whole class was enjoy in it!!! Thanks for Mr Chung!

First of all, let me show you how did we design and make it!!!

Here are our lander~~~~~~~

Design :

For the design, we designed a two-layer lander with a

In the base, it's a big square made by four straws that inserted each other. A big square base could endure more forces from the top.

The second layer is a smaller square and it connect the base by eight straws. It's more stable! And then we use four long straws fasten the top to make the rectangular pyramid shape . The four sides of the top shape has four triangles and we all know triangle is the most stable structure.

We put the egg on the sencond later and use long straws to surround the egg , we also cut many small pieces of straws to be the protecter around the egg that avoid the egg crushing.

The result: But unfortunately, the egg crushed..........> <

Even so many people bet ours would be successful......

Thank you for believing us!!!

For the improvement, we need to  lower the centre of gravity because the lander was droping down by side. We have to do someting that let the lander's base drop on the ground. We also need to make the top straw more longer.

In the end! I would like to thanks for all my group member! I had a really good time with you guys! Even our design didn't work but it gathered our wonderful ideas and work~~~~

Here are my group member~
